Best Kept Playing Fields Competition results 2019


2019 was another amazing year with over 220 facilities entered into the competition.

We gladly awarded our winners and runners up for their hard work at the AGM, which took place on the 24th October at the Essex Police Sports and Social Club, Chelmsford.

So without futher ado, here are the results:

Class 1 - Playing fields serving a population of 2,500 or more

Winner - Ongar Town Council - Love Lane Jubilee Field

Runner Up - Elsenham Parish Council - Leigh Drive

Class 2 - Playing fields serving a population of less than 2,500

Winner - Gosfield Parish Council  - Playing Field

Runner Up - Alresford Parish Council - Playing Field

Class 3 - The Gerald Snook Award for children's playgrounds whether on or off playing fields but judges apart from any playing field on which they are situated.

Winner - Saffron Walden Town Council - The Common

Runner Up - Ongar Town Council - Love Lane play area

Class 4 - Cricket Grounds on which a winter game may or may not be played

Winner - Billericay Cricket Club

Runners Up - Little Baddow Parish Council


Class 5 - Playing Fields which are professionally maintained and managed by larger authorities and commercial organisations

Winner -Chelmsford City Council - Chelmer Village Green 

 Runner Up - Braintree District Council - Witham Town Park

Class 6 - Best Kept Football Pitch

Winner - Gosfield Parish Council

Runner Up -  Dedham Parish Council

Class 7 - For exceptional work carried out during the year

Winner - Radwinter Recreation Ground - Improvements to pavilion, play areas and cricket pitch
